After reading through this book I am inspired to try some new recipes! It is a comprehensive guide to smoking meat, but it was much more broad that I expected. From areas of the United States that are the barbecue hotspots to what type of wood you should use for certain meats, this book covers it all! Even though I don't have a smoker, I am still benefiting from this book as there are some great recipes for sauces and side dishes that pair well with meat dishes. I would recommend this book for anyone who has a smoker or is interested in purchasing one. I received this item in exchange for an honest review.

This is an excellent book for those who want to start cooking real BBQ. It starts off with the basics in explaining the different type of smokers and moves into the regional differences of BBQing. I’m a big fan of Texas style BBQ and I really liked their brisket recipe as well as their Texas style BBQ sauce. I am looking forward to trying out some of the recipes from the “Not Your Everyday BBQ” chapter. As a beginner smoker (but seasoned backyard griller) I highly recommend this book.

I totally feel like I could enter and win one of those BBQ competitions after reading this book. I know about those BBQ competitions because this book tells where they are and how much you can win. Clearly, I have been wasting my time in the kitchen. I need to be outside fiddling with a smoker and signing up to win big money. It has so much information and even some pictures. I liked that it explained the difference between smoking and grilling. Who knew? It gives smoker maintenance which I would have not thought about half of those things. Another wonderful part of this book is it lists different woods and tells what flavors they have for the meat. Again, who knew? I am not one to give books as gifts, but this would be a perfect book to give those newlyweds or a graduate. I did receive this book for free for review purposes.

This book is a very good introduction to the art of smoking. It is very versatile as it is good for beginners as well veteran smokers, who are looking for new recipes. I liked the way the book was organized with an introduction to smoking and how a smoker works and then leading into the recipes. I think this is a gook book to pair along with any new smoker purchase as it talks about the process of smoking and would be good to read before you begin smoking. The recipes section of the book has uncommon smoking items like salmon, duck, and cheese as well as smoking staples like ribs, pulled pork, and brisket. It also includes side dishes which was part of the reason I purchased this book over others. The book it self is flexible in design and includes vibrant pictures and drawings which help to break up the recipes and instructions.

While my husband is an expert on the grill, he is a beginner with the smoker. This book starts out with telling you the basics, how everything works, the process and what to look for in a smoker. Once you learn about which smoker is right for you, and how you want to fuel it (along with a few pointers from Pit Masters) you reach the delicious recipes. The recipes are broken up into the different types of meats; Turkey, Chicken, Pork, Beef, Seafood and more. Last weekend we tried out the "All Day Long" Smoked Beef Briskit and followed the recipe to a T. We were really surprised with how delicious and moist the meat tasted, after all it was our first time really cooking on the slow cooker. I love to cook, grill and use a smoker. There's nothing better than smoked meat on a hot summer day. This book was excellent for tips and tricks on BBQ and smoking meat. I liked that the recipes and tips were easy to follow, even if you are a novice.The book breaks down type of meat you are using, fat contents, types of smoker and wood chip recommendations for flavors. The recipes are broken down for you and detailed in level of difficulty.I also enjoyed their selection on marinades and rubs, which have been delicious.I prefer to use an electric smoker or turn my grill into a smoker with wood chips. All these elements are easily explained with temperatures based on protein of your choice and what temperature the meat should be when it is considered cooked.The beer can chicken recipe was amazing - this is something I could make once a week. I have heard of using coffee as a rub but never actually tried it until recently. A coffee rub is excellent on beef. What a surprise! My next attempt will be lobster tails.Besides a healthy dose of meat recipes you can find side dishes such as beans and potato salad in this book. I loved the dijon potato recipe and plan to make it on a regular basis. Overall this is a great book I pick up on the weekends and plan out fun family meals.

When first looking at the title, I was weary at how much information I could find in the book. I'm an avid BBQer, and I was wondering how much this book could teach me. Well, let me tell you how wrong I was... The first two chapters covered equipment and the different styles of Southern BBQ. The detail that was covered in these two chapters was worth the price of the book alone. The book is appropriately broken down into the different proteins. Very easy to navigate. The chapter that covers sauces, rubs and more is written well and makes it easier to navigate the other chapters where these are being used. The tips that were included throughout the book from great BBQ masters were not only incredibly helpful, but made the book fun to read. It helped you get more into the book. The smoky, spicy chicken thighs recipe was exactly how they described it, with bold flavors and crispy skin. The recommended wood for each recipe was dead on. The Kansas City-style glazed spare ribs with a dry rub and a Kansas City-style BBQ sauce makes me understand why Kansas City is one of the Meccas of BBQ. I highly recommend this cookbook to novice and professionals alike.
