This is the last book of the Warrior Chronicles. I was over half book done with mixed feelings in a sense that I was stalling because I did't want to finish and say goodbye to Shanti and her group, and on the other hand I couldn't wait to see how it was going to end.I can say that this is absolutely amazing series. The story is developing in a very logical, consistent and incredibly suspenseful way. There is romance but it is not the focus of the story in a sense that it takes over the series. On the other hand, it is a focus of the story, it is about them as a couple, pair and a team. Shanti and Cayan. The story is about them, but they are not isolated from the rest of the world. There are so many characters, important characters and K.F. Breene is developing them with the story. By the time you reach this book, the characters are so complex, and you have a feeling you know them personally. But back to the story. The whole series is one continuous uninterrupted narrative, best read all together. Regardless of possible disagreements, I would never say the books end with cliffhangers, as this is not the type of series that goes on and on, but has a logical beginning, development and the end, with a little glimpse into the distant past, which is not really relevant for the story, but for the character development and explanation of the relationship between Shanti and Rohan. Each book covers one big chapter of Shanti and Cayan's life. In the first book they meet and get to know each other, in the second they figure out what their tasks are and what they need to do, in the third, they start gathering people and overcoming obstacles, In the fourth they defend themselves and their people, in the fifth they go on offensive and in the last book they complete the tasks and fulfill the expectations (I hope - it would only be logical). There are some funny times, some happy times, and some sad times. There are losses as well but that is to be expected considering how much time they spend fighting battles with Xandre and his minions. The series would not be so good if K.F. Breene didn't add this extra layer.Xandre we only meet in the last book, but his presence is tangible through his subordinates, minions and fear that he causes among people. That fear is so incredibly tangible, I could almost feel it. Shanti feels it as well. Shanti feels it so much in the second book, that it sounds almost desperate and hopeless. All the more to admire how Cayan never lost his faith in her and how he helped her overcome her doubts. During the third book, they both overcome their doubts, fears and unify their efforts, they solidify their relationship and the special bond they have. As their bond forms and becomes stronger, so does the faith of people in salvation they are foretold to bring. People start rising, fighting and claiming back their lives and freedom. The world K.F. Breene created is very well developed and described. I felt like I was there at times. I am wondering what was the inspiration for Cayan's town and castle. I definitely felt like I have walked the streets there, stood in Cayan's castle, been at the Women's Circle meeting, and trained in the fields with the Honour Guard. This is one of the best series I have read. It gave me a similar feeling as Kristen Painter's House of Comarré. Amazing. I wasn't even looking for this series, nor did I have any expectations. I read the first two books of Darkness series, which I liked a lot, and I subscribed to K.F. Breene Newsletter, the first Warrior book was announced, then the second and third. I waited for the fifth before I started reading the series. I am glad I did. Waiting for the last book was so frustrating, I cannot imagine waiting after every single one of them. Fortunately, they are all out now and can be read in a matter of days, they are so fast and thrilling. I have read some reviews about lack of interaction between Shanti and Cayan in one of the books, but I honestly cannot fathom why would someone say that. And I can say it ends well! One of the best series ever!Reading order is: Forged in Blood (The Warrior Chronicles, #0.5) - although I would suggest reading this one after at least 2 books, Chosen (The Warrior Chronicles #1), Hunted (The Warrior Chronicles, #2), Shadow Lands (The Warrior Chronicles #3), Invasion (The Warrior Chronicles #4), Siege (The Warrior Chronicles, #5), and the final book Overtaken (The Warrior Chronicles, #6)K.F. Breene also wrote a little bonus epilogue to Overtaken as a separate short story. Do not miss it!

I am SO SAD that this series is coming to a close!!! I held off on reading it for months and months because I just did not want to let go of the story.I will admit that this series has had a lot of ups and downs for me and was one, at certain points, that was very easy to set aside for books that were more consistently exciting - but I still love it. Shanti is one of my favorite female characters, ever, and while I do say that a lot, I'm serious. I have a growing list, but her snarky comments are some of my favorite and I absolutely love the banter between her and pretty much all of the other characters. I actually love the banter between pretty much everyone, and it feels real, not like someone made it up and it isn't actually happening. The story is just...authentic. Shanti is never too tired, hurt, happy, or angry to make a snarky, sarcastic comment to anyone and just loves pushing buttons and being a general pain to anyone she deems worthy of it. She pushes every single boundary thrown in her way and doesn't let anything stop her. She is truly a force you will have trouble finding anywhere else. It helps that K. F. Breene was so great at building up the relationships between most of the characters and makes you feel invested in almost everyone. There were a few people here and there that were supposed to be a little more impactful that I never found myself caring much about (I'm looking at you, Daniels), but that could be due to me setting the books aside for extended periods of time and forgetting. That could do it. I may eventually read the entire series over again, straight though, so that I get a better grasp on some of the things that got a bit foggy for me over time, which happens. I tend to forget details if I do not read a series quickly. I normally wait until a series is completed before I delve into it for that very reason, but this one just caught my attention and I couldn't resist. The battle scenes were some of my favorite parts to read. She really nailed it and seemed to really have a grasp on how it all works, without making it feel fake, stiff or skipped around. I've found some fighting scenes feel like they are missing little gaps of information and it makes it very hard to visualize, something I never had an issue with here. They also find themselves in some morally difficult situations that I always found got resolved in a satisfying way, while making me really feel the tension and emotional turmoil they would clearly be going through. That takes a great writer. If you love strong female (and male) characters that are actually well developed, lots of combat and sarcasm, plus an interesting story line with a little bit of romance thrown in, you should not hesitate to give this series a go. Stick it through some of the slower story building parts in some of the other books and you'll be rewarded with a truly gratifying conclusion, which we all know isn't always what you get after investing time in a series as long as this. She really delivers and closes all of the open ends without leaving it feeling rushed.

A good, strong series with a lot of colorful characters and a strong female main character. Ashanti is strong, stubborn, inquisitive, and learns from her mistakes. She also doesn't lose her head over a guy; they both work to earn each other. I liked the way the romance unfolded slow enough to be believable and without all the angsty jealousy so common in books today. They found their way to each other like adults. The plot was strong, though a bit beleaguered. I definitely think the story could have been condensed by one or two books and the best way to do that was to cut down on the details in the fight scenes. Don't get me wrong they were good scenes, but I don't need a blow by blow for every scuffle they get into. My eyes started to glaze over which is sad because the battles are always some of my favorite parts in stories. This is a good read for those who like strong female characters, a fight against evil, and a romance that is between equals.
