Love this book. It does a great job explaining what the Catholic Church, the teachings and traditions stand for. Excellent resource.
Much has been neglected in the religious education of Catholics since the 1960's.I believe that there is much which isn't presented clearly enough in the homilies in ourchurches, nor in the Catholic School classrooms. In my opinion, this is a wonderfulguide about Catholic Teaching which, also, points to verses in the scriptures whichsupport what has been presented.
I enjoyed that it included decrees, thoughts and opinions of Popes, Saints, Doctors of the Church, etc and also that it used analogies to make the matters discussed in the text clearer in the readers mind. I wished it would have referenced the topics with the paragraph sections of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Reading it causes me to delve deeper into my Catholic faith with the mindset of capturing the spiritual nature of its teachings. It is truly an explosion of profound truths begging the reader to grasp in all sincerity the importance of the attainment of Eternal felicity.
Read from cover to cover including the encyclical at the back (Pius X on the Catechism) total of 728 pages.For being billed as a "practical manual" it's laborious and long winded. I'm like, get to the point of what I need to know to savemy soul - instead of being self-indulgent. Unfortunately this is better than post Vatican II Catechisms, in my opinion; which arguably are worse(not salient). Good for somebody with a lot of time on their hands or willing to read a short segment each day. Something cheap/ free is thePenny Catechism (nuts and bolts) for a short summary of core Catholic beliefs.
