A new story with an old soul. That's how this book has been described by others who have fallen in love with it and I could not agree more. I was surprised to find something that reminded me, powerfully, of Edith Nesbit, CS Lewis and George MacDonald - while being something completely different at the same time.A hero story, this is more Hobbit than Watership Down. More Narnia than Beatrix Potter. And it works. I was skeptical because I usually prefer my animal characters to be of the James Herriot kind - rather than the talking Beaver kind. But, this, like Lewis, somehow lets us forget that Heather and Picket are animals and instead we relate to the heroes in these interesting characters.I had a hard time getting into the story. Because I had no idea what the intention was, I struggled in the first few chapters. They were almost too pastoral for me. Looking backwards, I understand now that they are in fact much like the beginning of The Hobbit - the innocence of the Shire (I mean Nick Hollow) must be acknowledged before the adventure can begin.Once Picket and Heather and are on the run, the story comes alive.I have waited weeks to write this review because I want so badly to communicate the profound value of this humble and tender little story. Even two months later, words fail me.Heather and Picket are unwitting participants in an adventure that transforms them into the very best versions of themselves - in the old fashioned way. They suffer much. They struggle against themselves. They humble themselves. They confront their own worst attributes. Okay, I'm a 42 year old father of 4. I have 3 daughters (16, 7, and 5) and one son (13). I saw this while browsing on Amazon and thought, "The cover looks cool. Hmm.. the reviews are good. I wonder if the kids would like to read this?" D. Smith did a great job. There's an epic feeling here and the characters are just great. Rabbits? That has to be something cute like Beatrix Potterâ€™s stories, right? Thatâ€™s what I thought when I heard about this book by S.D. Smith. I picked it up anyway since it looked all right and might be something my little sisters would enjoy. Rabbits, seriously? No, these rabbits are differentâ€”they have swords, and a war, and a lost king. They have a well-written, compelling story (good enough to have quotes out of it!) that surprised me with its depth of plot. The cover shows that it was probably intended for middle graders. Sorry, eight-to-twelve-year-olds, I claim it. Itâ€™s mine.The Setting:Set in the fantasy world of Nataliaâ€”a world very much like our ownâ€”this book had a nice heroic and medieval feel. Since itâ€™s told from the perspective of rabbits, that made the action quite different from your usual book; and it also made the regular dangers of the forest even scarier. Seriously, imagine being able to jump around like crazy while you are sword fighting or to give a wolf a hard kick with your hind legs.The Story:The story was very good, better than some things Iâ€™ve read that are for older audiences! At first glance, it seems quite similar to all the other oh-wow-weâ€™re-the-lost-heirs-of-wherever books. Not so in the least! Very surprising and satisfying. There were also great lessons on forgiveness and heart-warming (even funny!) moments along the way.The Characters:I loved Heather and Picketâ€”they were so real. (I even forgot they were rabbits at some points.) Emma, Gort, Uncle Wilfred, and Smalls were also great favorites of mine. I found Kyle and Helmer intriguing and couldnâ€™t wait to find out who they really were.The Concerns:Parents should have caution in choosing this book for younger readers because of some intense, un-graphic action and some bad attitude that is later resolved. Also, SPOILER ALERT!!!! Heather and Picketâ€™s home is burnt by some pretty scary wolves, and they donâ€™t know what happened to their parents and baby brother. And because they are rabbits (thatâ€™s not important though, right?) when they are underground there is mention of creepy creatures chasing them and the wolves do threaten to eat them sometimes. And, SPOILER ALERT AGAIN!!! massive battle at the end does mention rabbits being dead or wounded.Soâ€”read this book!!!!! I found it to be an awesome, well-written story! It is actually the second book, but it can pretty much stand-alone.

Courage, fear, loyalty, betrayal, secrets, and promise ... this story captured the imagination of our entire family (with children ages 1-18) and held us in its grasp until the last page.Worth every penny.

Some decent info on Roman Letter forms in the beginning. Then the book goes through of tons of (useless to me) info which leaves me wondering whether there is time barrier or cultural barrier. It seems the author was a sign painter in England (i believe) and I found things to be way different in the U.S. First off, I don't size brushes up as either a "goose" or a "swan". This book also has all that useful info most other books have about running a business and how to set up safe scaffolding. Give me a break. I gave it 2 stars only because there are very few "sign painters" books available, it should be lower a guess.

I've got a few different books on sign craft and this book covers many aspects of production. I've never seen one cover so many aspects. From letter form to how light affects color, it's pretty a wide range of topics. This gets to the core of the fundamentals and traditional sign making. The content is presented in a very well structured and easy to read way. The British view on sign painting is also very interesting and makes me think about the craft from a different perspective. Great illustrations as well.

I found this at Sam's Club, and this is definitely a better price. My husband got it for me for Christmas and I love it. Lovely graphics, interesting details, arranged by regions. This is definitely a great addition for any wildlife enthusiast.

Great gift for the nieces and nephews. I admit I had a good look at it first, though. This is a beautifully portrayed book based on continent and environments (water, jungle, savannah, prairie, etc).

Purchased this for my boyfriend for Christmas. He LOVES it. I catch him looking through it all the time reading up on some animal. Pictures are spectacular and it's a large book, perfect for a coffee table.

My son, now 17, is a walking and talking animal encyclopedia and has not put this book down. Beautiful images and plenty of not only interesting but very thoughtful and educational writing as well.

We bought this as a birthday present for my child's friend, and not only was a hit with the recipient, it a huge hit with all the kids (including mine!). Amazing book. It is bigger and weightier than I thought when I first ordered it -- a very substantial volume.

It's hard for me to believe that the two people who wrote negative reviews actually read the book. The studies seem very well done, the conclusions solid. The ADA states that mercury is safe; the evidence indicates otherwise. I can understand that dentists would be reluctant to accept this; it must be very difficult to consider the possibility (and it seems a hell of a lot more than possible) that you have spent your life and livelihood doing immense damage to people by placing amalgam fillings in their mouths. The evidence shows 1) mercury leaks 24/7 from amalgam fillings, 2) the mercury collects throughout the body, 3) mercury damages the immune system, 4) mercury is very likely the cause, or at the very least a contributing cause, of multiple poorly understood human diseases, such as MS, ALS, CFIDS, fibromyalgia, arthritis, autism, Alzheimer's and many others. No wonder animals don't get these diseases. They don't have amalgam fillings or other heavy mercury exposure. Think about this, folks. Does it make sense that the same amalgam placed in your mouth must, when removed from your mouth, be disposed of as toxic waste? The only safe place for amalgam is in your mouth? Next time you break an old thermometer, don't bother dealing with the mercury as hazardous waste. Just put it in your mouth; it'll be quite safe there :)

As a practicing dentist, I am aware that silver fillings have been around for 150+ years. During that time, people are living LONGER. But, it's not due to the mercury OR the silver fillings. In fact, people eat more seafood than ever and get more mercury that way than from silver fillings. Finally, the plastic replacement fillings leach out formaldehyde over time. The only true replacement (if needed) is gold or porcelain at $800-or-so a tooth. I have silver fillings in my mouth. There is no free mercury. They are safe. It's sad that a book like this serves one purpose: financial gain for its publisher and author.- Dr. Waters

This is one of the better cook books for Instant Pot, because it actually contains photos of the dishes for most of the recipes listed inside. It's also hardcover which is nice. It's easy to follow & great for anyone starting out learning how to cook with an Instant Pot or a similar pressure cooker.

Great book especially for beginners to the Instant Pot. Great section explaining all the parts and functions of the Pot. Also a section to help troubleshoot common failures (like scorched bottom) The recipes are also good for those just getting comfortable with using an electric pressure cooker.

The book contains recipes from all sorts of cuisines: Mexican, Italian, Chinese, and Indian as well as traditional American from the South and New England. Using the recipes from this book has given me more confidence to be able to adapt other recipes to the Instant Pot.

This cookbook is great! It is really helpful to have Instant Pot specific recipes for a first-time user. There are a good number of recipes and they turn out well. I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 because there are NO pictures of the food next to the recipes.
